(I'm not going to make these every day for the next 6 months, don't worry.)

A bit of backstory

My first experience with Linux was on a Raspberry Pi when I was 7. Since then, Linux has been my primary operating system. However, because of school, I've had to use a lot of Office stuff recently, and therefore need to use Windows to do homework.

Honest review of Windows from a Linux user

The bad parts

Three days in, I've'nt had many issues other than Minecraft being noticeably slower, the emoji font, and the Simple Voice Chat mod defaulting to my Bluetooth headphones rather than the USB microphone.

One thing that Windows is really lacking in is customization. I'm really limited to changing the accent color and wallpaper, and past that I need to use external software. All that the "themes" in the Microsoft Store do are change the accent color and wallpaper style.

Stuff everyone complains about that I haven't had any issues with

I've seen a lot of complaints that "Microsoft is shoving AI everywhere", yet I haven't noticed that. Sure, there's the Copilot app in the taskbar, but it took 2 clicks to remove that. (Right click icon -> unpin from taskbar.) I haven't seen anything else related to AI.

Another complaint is RAM usage, but I also don't have an issue with that. There's always at least 50% available, unless I have a game open.

Things that I prefer over Linux

The only thing about Windows that I prefer over Linux is the desktop. I haven't seen any full DE come close to Windows in terms of looks.

At the end of the day, Windows isn't my favorite operating system but it's still better than I thought it would be at first.
